Mission statement: The mission of MLC-ARC is to recognize and work towards removing barriers that prevent the racial make-up of MLC from reflecting the city-wide racial make-up. This work is two-pronged where we focus on the internal MLC community--making sure we are not only inclusive, but also celebratory of racial diversity--as well as seeking remedy to equitable access to MLC. Systemic racism shows up in a myriad of ways from the justice system to the education system. MLC-ARC is one of our community’s resources for furthering education, support, and action to dismantle racial inequity locally.
Who we are: We are a co-operative of parents, staff, and community members who choose to be involved to any degree - whether we commit to being a part of one project a year, or choose to attend meetings whenever it is convenient. MLC-ARC belongs to all of us in the MLC community.
Ways to get involved: The best way to get involved is to attend monthly meetings, currently held on Zoom. Here we discuss issues, exchange ideas, and organize projects.
Current projects: ”Our Heroes, Our Values” - Individual artists, both students and community members, will have their art digitally printed and affixed to the chain-link fence surrounding MLC. The art will reflect our heroes and values surrounding racial justice as well as climate justice and LGBTQ+ rights. To submit your art work, please see the project page. Thank you!
