Hello, MLC Community,
Happy spring! Check out the news and notes from your PTSA:
Set your alarm clock: The MLC Backyard Concert Series tickets go on sale at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at MLCPTSA.org For a complete line-up of shows, check out MLCPTSA.org.
Want to help? We are looking for catering, beer, and wine donations for the events If you would like to donate food and/or drink, please email Amy Ouellette. If live music isn't your thing, consider making a financial contribution. We are hoping to raise $25K for the 2022-23 school year to help pay for field trips, electives, experiential project-based learning... all of the stuff makes MLC magical.
MLC + Couch Park Cleanup is this Sunday, April 2, 2022 from 10AM-noon. Kids and grownups are welcome. Please bring gardening tools, gloves, garbage grabbers, and lawn & garbage bags. Thanks to all that came out last month, it was a great turnout!
New Dates for the Used Book Sale Wednesday through Friday, May 25, 26, & 27 in the MLC Auditorium. HOLD ON TO YOUR donations of new or gently used children's and grownup books for now. As you know, MLC is a small building with lots of creative projects going on, so right now we're making space for sale books. We will need help before, during, and after the sale, email me if you and or/your student is interested.
MLC Clothing Closet and Food Pantry is open on Wednesdays and Fridays from noon-1PM. Our clothing selection is fully stocked so we are not accepting any clothing donations for now. We'd love donations of nutritious snack foods such as KIND bars, fresh fruit, and gluten-free snack options.
April PTSA meeting via Zoom, is next Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 6:30 PM. We'll start having our PTSA meetings in person at MLC as restrictions lighten up for using PPS buildings.

Tickets for all shows will go on sale on April 7, 2022 at MLCPTSA.org We are looking for catering, beer and wine donations. If you would like to donate food and/or drink, please email Amy Ouellette.
If live music isn't your thing, consider making a financial contribution. We are hoping to raise $25K for the 2022-23 school year to help pay for field trips, electives, experiential project-based learning... all of the stuff makes MLC magical.
ALSO We're establishing a monthly MLC + Couch Park cleanup starting Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 10AM-noon. Kids are welcome! Please bring gardening tools, gloves, and lawn & garbage bags. We will meet on the first Sunday of every month through summer, 2022.

Hello, MLC Community,
I hope that your holiday break has been restful and restorative. The PTSA has been cooking up a fundraising event that will replace the annual auction* and we're super excited to announce...
THE MLC BACKYARD CONCERT TOUR 2022
WHAT IS THS?
A series of small music concerts hosted by MLC families
Each event will feature a different music genre with food & drink options
Interested in hosting?
Interested in performing?
Know a band or musician who wants to perform?
Interested in helping with ticket sales and other tasks?
FIILL OUT THIS FORM: https://forms.gle/gXxP1RaruB3jVNqE7
*WHY NO AUCTION?
The short answer is that an auction is an enormous amount of work and no one has volunteered to take it on. Plus, a large event in this pandemic era could be easily cancelled. A series of smaller events will raise funds while still building our MLC community.
Let's rock 2022!

Dear MLC Community,
I hope that you've had a restful and wholly un-eventful holiday break. Hopefully you had a chance to view the annual Solstice celebration that so many MLC students and staff contributed to virtually.
f you've been around a while, you might remember the song "Winter" that the whole school sings at Solstice and is featured at the beginning of the video. (Here's (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy7Wt7OgQ8s) the original by John Krumm.)
I've been humming this tune to myself as a reminder that for right now, we're dancing around the fire until spring time comes again.
What's coming up in January at MLC!

MLC will soon be the recipient of a new bike shelter on the blacktop, courtesy of Nicholas Woolridge, a high school student at Riverdale High School. Nicholas is building the shelter for his Eagle Scout project and along with Mark, the PTSA is super excited to support this addition to our school. The cost will be approximately $1,600 with $1,200 coming from the PTSA and $400 from Nicholas's fundraising. For a detailed cost estimate, please see this document. For more information about PPS bike shelter design and construction requirements, please click here. We'll be voting on the PTSA's contribution to this project at our December, 2020 meeting. THANK YOU, Nicholas!
Hello, MLC Families,
What a long, strange trip this has been, right? As we await a time for us all to be together again in person, we all hold our friends and teachers close to our hearts. Still, we are still a community! Here's how you can get involved with MLC now:
--Electives!: Share your knowledge with our kiddos by teaching a virtual elective this fall. Consider facilitating one of the BLM electives with elementary or middle school grades. Here is the link to the volunteer form: https://forms.gle/A43kNEGH8VtLRndz8
--If you need grocery or other assistance, please reach out to our counselors, Jeannette or Kelly or our new social worker, Clement to request a Fred Meyer card.
--Join the PTSA and enjoy the member benefits and advocacy for all students. It's only $12 to join.
--October PTSA meeting: Our next meeting will be Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at 6:30 PM. We'll be virtual, so join us via Zoom here! We'll be talking about challenges and support for students during distance learning and November ballot measures that affect us all.
--Save the date: Janet Allison, founder of Boys Alive! will be leading a webinar for MLC parents, "Why Boys Challenge You: Parenting and Teaching for Remote Learning Success" on Nov 6, 2020 at 6:30 PM. Register in advance for this meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0tdO-rqT4tGNa-eLnP8i-jb-oezK-LtId-
